KETOROLAC - INJECTION

(kee-TOE-row-lack) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Toradol 

WARNING:  Do not use oral and/or injectbale ketorolac for mild or chronic pain nor should their combined use go longer than 5 days.  This drug must not be injetced into the spine.  <br/><br/>Use only the amount prescribed.  Do not use this drug if you are in labor, breast-feeding, have sotmach problems (e.G., peptic ulcer), major kidney problems, bleeding problems, severe dehydration, or if you are having surgery.  Do not use ketorolac while using aspirin or other NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen).  <br/>"Blood thinners" (e.G., heparin, warfarin) sholud be used with extreme caution.  Because this drug can cause a severe allergic reaction, appropriate medical help must be on hand, especially for the first dose.  Do not use ketorolac if you are allergic to aspirin, NSAID or ketorolac itself.  Seek immediate medical attention if an allergic reaction occurs.  <br/>Symptoms of an allergic reaciton include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing.  <br/>Elderly patients, those weighing less than 110-lbs (50kg), and those with mild kidney problems must not exceed 60mg/day when using the injectalbe form of this drug.  <br/>

USES:  This medication is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that relieves pain and reduces swelling.  It is for short-term use only (no more than 5 days).  

HOW TO USE:  Learn all preparation and usage instructions in the product package.  <br/><br/>If any of the informaiton is unclear, consult your doctor or pharmacist.  Inject this medication into a vein (IV) or into a muscle (IM) eevry 6 to 12 as needed or as directed by your doctor.  <br/>The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.  If given IV, inject this drug slwoly over at least 15 seconds. <br/><br/>Under no circumstances should the combined use of the inejctable form and oral form of this drug be given for more than five days.  Consult your docotr or pharmacist for details.  Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration.  If either is present, do not use the liquid.  <br/>Learn how to store and discard needles and medical supplies safely. Consult your pharmacist. <br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  Stomach upset is the most cmomon side effect.  Nausea, vomiting, bloating, gas, loss of appetite, sweating, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, irritation at the injection site and abnormal tatses may also occur. <br/><br/>If these effects become bothersome or severe, notify your doctor.  Inform your doctor promtply if you develop: ringing in the ears, vision changes. <br/><br/>If you notice any of the following unlikely but very serious side effects, stop taking this drug and cosnult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/ abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds.  An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs.  Symptmos of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. <br/><br/>If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your medical history especially: any liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, ulcers, heart disease, alcohol use, high blood pressure, eye disease, asthma, nasal polyps, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID allergy (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib).  Use cautoin when performing tasks requiring alertness. <br/>Limit alcohol intake as it may intensify the drowsiness effect of this medication.  This medicine may casue stomach bleeding.  Daily use of alcohol, especially when combined with this medicine, may raise your risk for stmoach bleeding.  <br/><br/>Check with your doctor or pahrmacist for more information.  Do not take aspirin without consulting your docotr.  Check the ingredients of any nonprescription medication you may be taking for many cough-and-cold formulas contain aspirin.  Infrequently, this medicatoin may raise the skin's sensitivity to sunlight.   If this happens to you, avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen.  <br/>Avoid sunlamps.  Caution is adviesd when this drug is used in the elderly.  This medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly nedeed.  Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.   Use of this drug during the last 6 months of pregnancy is not recommended. <br/><br/>This drug is excreted into breast milk.  Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescriptoin drugs you may use, especially: "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin), other arthritis medication (including aspirin), "water pills", lithium, probenecid. <br/><br/>Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  <br/><br/>Symptoms of overdose may include severe stomach pain, cfofee ground-like vomit, dark stool, ringing in the ears, change in amount of urine, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, confusion, severe headache or loss of consciousness.  

NOTES:  Do not shrae this medication with others. 

MISSED DOSE:  If you are on a regualr dosing schedule, use the missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for the next dose.  If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular scehdule.  <br/><br/>Do not "double-up" the dose.  

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature and keep away from moisture and sunlight.]]></description>
